New Approach to Supporting Clubs New Zealand Sports

Clubs New Zealand is proud to announce a new approach to supporting Clubs New Zealand Sports tournaments to commence in 2025. Sports has always been and will continue to be an important part of club life, which means we need to be continually reviewing and refining the Clubs New Zealand sport offering.
In 2021, Clubs New Zealand implemented several measures to support tournament hosts, including a $300 payment to host clubs, an automatic $2,000 Prezzy Card Draw for participants, and the provision of branded merchandise and ‘goodies.’ While these initiatives were welcomed, feedback has highlighted the need for a more scalable solution to recognise the varying size and complexity of events.
With rising costs and logistical challenges, it’s vital that we find smarter ways to support tournaments. This new tier system allows us to better allocate resources and provide tailored support based on the scale and significance of each event.
The new system categorises tournaments into three tiers, based primarily on participant numbers, however, the Board will have the discretion to review the tiers as and when required.
Tier 1 (200+ participants):
- $1,000 grant
- Clubs New Zealand flags supplied
- Full day attendance or participation by a Board Member and/or National Office staff
- Delegates meeting chaired by a Clubs New Zealand representative
Tier 2 (101 – 200 participants):
- $600 grant
- Clubs New Zealand flags supplied
- Delegates meeting chaired by a Clubs New Zealand representative or approved chair
Tier 3 (< 100 participants):
- $400 grant
- Clubs New Zealand flags supplied
- Delegates meeting chaired by an approved chair
To support the new system and ensure the continuation of the $2,000 Prezzy Card Draw, we will require host clubs to provide a complete list of participants at least one month before each tournament begins. This will enable us to assign the tournament to the appropriate tier, enter participants into the prize draw, and verify their eligibility to compete in Clubs New Zealand Tournaments.
