Increase in fraudulent notes

10 December 2024

Circular 24-052

Relevant for Club Committees and Management

Our friends at Next Payments have shared via the RBNZ that there is an increase in fraudulent notes, particularly in the $50 denomination

New Zealand bank notes feature special security features, on the $50 note for example, when you tilt the note back and forth look for the sparkly rolling bar on the bird.

More information on how to spot a fake banknote can be found on the RBNZ website here. Alternatively if you are unsure about whether a banknote is genuine and have a CRT, ask the customer to insert the note, the CRTs have all been tested and no fraudulent notes will be accepted.
