Daylight saving and its impact on employees

24 September 2024

Circular 24-041

Relevant for Club Officers and Management

Daylight saving is upon us with the clock springing forward at 2am on Sunday 29 September.

The changeover time of 2am was selected in order to reduce the impact on employees and employers. If you do have employees working during the changeover to daylight saving time, they will technically be working an hour less, but are still entitled to be paid for that extra hour as if it was worked. Most payroll systems will automatically account for this.

More information about employee entitlements for working when daylight saving begins or ends can be found on the Employment New Zealand website.
