COVID-19 Information for the Gambling Sector - 3 September 2021
6 September 2021
Kia ora koutou,
As you will be aware, everywhere apart from Auckland has moved to Alert Level 3. Auckland remains at Alert Level 4. This will be reviewed by the Government on Monday 6 September.
You will also need to refer to the Government’s guiding legislation and the advice and guidance provided by agencies involved in public health and workplace safety: Ministry of Health and WorkSafe New Zealand.
Operations at Alert Level 3
For most gambling operations, there are very few differences between operating gambling at Level 3 and Level 4. For more information on operating under the current alert levels, please refer to Alert Level Summary Table on our website.
We have identified a small number of venues that are operating EGMs onsite during alert levels 4 and 3. We expect societies to actively monitor activity at venues and ensure the requirements are being met. Note EMS monitoring fees will not be charged where machines are inactive.
Venue Surrenders and Transfers
The Department will now process venue surrender and transfer applications for those regions that are operating under level 3 restrictions. The onsite visits that are necessary to complete the transfer will need to adhere to the Government’s requirements around the movement of essential workers.
If you society wishes to change the date of a scheduled venue transfer or surrender please email gambling@dia.govt.nz
Fee waivers
There are no current plans to make any amendments to the Gambling Fees regulations or introduce new fee waivers during the current period of COVID restrictions. Note this does not include EMS monitoring fees where machines are inactive and will not be charged.
If you have any specific questions, please email gambling@dia.govt.nz .
