Clubs New Zealand Submission on the Incorporated Societies Bill
13 May 2021
You will all be aware that public submissions are now being called for the Incorporated Societies Bill. The bill proposes to put in place a modern framework of basic legal, governance, and accountability obligations for incorporated societies and those who run them.
The proposed bill is of significance to the Club Industry and far more in depth than the current 1908 Act.
Clubs New Zealand will be submitting on behalf of members and we have prepared a draft submission, which you can download below. If you have any feedback or comments regarding the draft submission please send them to lucy@clubsnz.com no later than Monday 17th May.

Make a Submission
While we will be making a submission on behalf of members, we always encourage clubs to make an individual submission. If this is something you wish to do, here’s what you need to know:
- The closing date for submissions is Friday, 28 May 2021
- Submissions are publicly released and published to the Parliament website. Only your name or organisation’s name is required on a submission. Please keep your contact details separate, as if they are included on the submission they will become publicly available when the submission is released.
- If you wish to include information of a private or personal nature in your submission you should discuss this with the clerk of the committee before submitting.
- If you wish to speak to your submission, please state this clearly.
Further guidance on making a submission can be found from the ‘How to make a submission’ page on the Parliament website.
