The New Zealand Red Cross are currently promoting AEDs in the workplace, with the massive goal of reducing the SCA mortality rate in New Zealand.

Did you Know?  From the time of collapse from Ventricular Fibrilation (Heart issues), there is only 3-4 minutes for successful response to treatment.  If a rescuer can provide defibrillation in the first minute, the victim’s chance of survival increases to more than 90 perfect.  For every one minute delay, the chance of survival lessens by 7 - 10%.  VFs are the weakest link in the chain of survival for an adult.

Because of this, New Zealand Red Cross are offering special discounted packages on our AEDs at present.

AEDs increase the chances of survival for people who have heart-related emergencies.  Every 90 minutes, a New Zealander dies from heart disease, sadly, this equates to 16 deaths per day.  Many of these deaths are premature and preventable.  Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is triggered by an abrupt, unpredictable electrical malfunction in the heart causing an irregular heartbeat.  Victims can even be healthy and fit adults or children, who have no known risk factors.

Survival rates for SCA are grim with a survival rates of less than 10% in our cities.  In you live outside of a main centre your chances of survival are even slimmer.  In some areas, it has been found that people suffering SCA and who received a shock within 3 minutes, greater than 70% survived.

In addition, statistics show, the most common cause for an adult to collapse is Ventricular Fibrilation (Heart issues).  The only treatment is defibrillation and the window of opportunity is so small for a good outcome, the sooner the defibrillation, the better the victim’s chances of survival; precisely why having your own AED to use while you’re waiting for Emergency Responders is so important.

Are you a Charitable Organisation or Community Group?  Living in a Community that does not have an AED in a nearby vicinity?  Have you considering fundraising or rallying together local businesses to obtain an AED for your region? We can help get you started, and offer Guides for Groups who are looking to fundraise for an AED in their local Community.
